Krause uses all his naval tactical knowledge, experience, and commanding abilities to ensure that Greyhound and the convoy counter the threat posed by the German U-boats and safely reach the shores of England. Hanks plays the role of Commander Ernest Krause, the captain of Greyhound, as the film depicts how he bravely and heroically guides the entire convoy safely across the Atlantic Ocean in the midst of an attack by German submarines. Considering it's a French production that isn't on par budget-wise to major Hollywood releases, director Antonin Baudry does a fantastic job immersing the audience into the perspective of Chanteraide and his sonar duties, along with how he and his crewmates tackle their missions, all the while depicting the intricacies of submarine warfare and in a broader sense, the psychological demands of life at sea.ĭirected by Aaron Schneider and starring Tom Hanks, 2020’s Greyhound tells the story of the ship, the USS Keeling, dubbed ‘Greyhound’, which is the commanding vessel of a convoy code named HX-25 comprising 37 Allied ships that have to cross the Atlantic to reach Liverpool, England and offer support to the Allies in WWII. It’s a gripping film that explores submarine tactics and several scenarios that Titane and its crew are thrown into and how they manage those tense situations. Chanteraide, nicknamed “Socks” by his crew mates, is the talented sonar operator on board a French nuclear submarine named ‘Titane’ and must use his expert abilities and knowledge of underwater acoustics to detect threats and ensure that Titane does its job while also safeguarding the lives of his crew mates and avoiding the possibility of war. 2019’s The Wolf’s Callis a French submarine war film that portrays the threat of a war between France and Russia unless the protagonist, who is a sonar operator named Chanteraide (François Civil), uses his expert skills to avert the impending crisis.
